IROQUOIS MMA REVIEW

So I was lucky enough to watch the show live. There were a lot of good fights you can read about here. I had a problem with the ref stopping the fight a little too fast a few times. I saw Shonie Carter there as well (was injured) and he didn't seem that friendly so I didn't bother asking for a pic. He seemed like an A$$ but I cant say for sure.

Also, one of the announcers/interviewers, our own Jeff "The Inferno" Joslin almost put on a show for us. I talked to him earlier today and he explained what happened. I guess the sore loser from Amsterdam threw his bloody towel on Jeff who then whipped it back at the guys head and proceeded to put on a 3 second show of the best foot work all night. Wish we could have seen more!! lol Overall, another plus for Ontario. I hope the law makers are watching.

RECENT MIKE TYSON INTERVIEW

Ok ok, this is not MMA but Mike was very close to fighting Bob Sapp a few years ago which would have been fun to see. Love him or hate him you were prolly one of the people that was excited to watch him fight years ago. I'm just happy to see this dude getting better. He was too good too young. Too bad we didn't get to see more.

I'M BACK IN ACTION

UFC83 was a blast. Watching the show in person was an amazing experience especially because the crowd was so loud. I bashed Joe Rogan for not coming earlier in the month but Dana White announced it was because his wife was having a baby. So to Joe, I apologize. He should have at least made a video announcement for the event though! lol

Back to the show. We got to meet Heath Herring, Jeremy Horn, Arianny (UFC GIRL) and Big John McCarthy. All were very cool and humble.

KALIB STARNES IS AN A$$HOLE

"The Running Man" has come out with a few excuses around his poor performance at UFC83. I don't buy any of it. First he said that he broke his foot during the first fight. When you review all the kicks he threw, nothing should have broken his foot. Then he talks about it being his way of protesting the low wages and lack of health care provided by the UFC. I agree with his concerns but don't think he should have wasted my money by running around like an idiot. Especially when he was representing Canada as well. Will never watch this guy fight or report on him again. You know what, I'm not even posting his picture to the next. Have a look at Gina Curano for fun.

RICH CLEMENTI IS A TOUGH DUDE

So he's had some really good fights and ended up losing his most recent fight at UFC83. Why do I think he's tough? Dude already signed up for UFC84. I think that shows crazy dedication and I've officially become a fan of this fighter. More here

I'm not sad nor am I surprised about this. He put on a poor show at UFC83 and got his a$$ handed to him. If you're going to call out the other dude and tell him you're going to break his arm at the weigh-ins at least put up a good fight. He got owned. I've had a lot of negative stuff to say about Dana White but I'll hold back for a few weeks. UFC83 was amazing in person and I give him props for being able to setup such an event.

Guys like Chuck Liddell are coming out and saying this guy hasn't proved himself, has no ground game etc etc etc. I think people are jealous that he's getting so much attention and therefore, if you hate him for any reason related to him getting "too" popular then you're a puss. I think as long as GSP is there, Hughes and Serra need to find somewhere else (weight class or organization) to fight. THE PRIDE "DREAM" LIVES ON

MMAWEEKLY posted a great article that talks about how the new Dream organization is a combination of two major fighting organizations in Japan. As we all know, the UFC purchased PrideFC and promised to keep it going. A few months later they broke their promise and closed down shop. Well, Hero combined their employees with the former PrideFC employees to create Dream. What does that mean for the PrideFC fans? DREAM = PRIDEFC.

THE DEBATE ON MMA'S LEGITIMACY GOES ON

This is a great article about the current state of MMA and some of the road bumps ahead. I'm starting to hear shift in how people are putting down the sport. First, everyone simply dismissed it as a blood sport that was barbaric. As it gained popularity and statistics were put together, the new argument is that this is a new sport and longer term studies on damage caused from these fights have yet to be compiled. I'm not sure I agree. I think the fact that we allow mui-thai, kick boxing and boxing events proves how ignorant our sports commissioners are.

THE REAR NAKED CHOKE

I don't know what show this is but this clip was funny. I agree with the picture over to the left...it's only gay if you make eye contact! haha They are two of the toughest bastards in the world. I guess some positions may need better names like "the rear naked choke" should be called the lions choke and "the mount"....ummm..."the bear kill"? I know I know, bad names, but changes are needed. Grappling is not gay you homos.

PUT YOUR KIDS IN BJJ

I'm not trying to say that Karate and the rest of the typical martial arts are bad. In fact, the idea of MMA is taking the best of all arts and combing them. People seem to associate grappling with MMA but they are separate. Grappling is a big part of MMA but should not be confused. as being the same. There is no striking in grappling and it can be a great way for your kids to stay healthy along with being able to defend themselves against larger, stronger people that might be out to hurt them. Bullies beware.

Here is a fight from an old MMA documentary about grappling being incorporated into fights. The kung-fu master had no idea.

MATT SERRA SUCKS

So the guy calls Canadians "drunks" (as per my earlier post) and seems to be getting cocky. It could be related to all the hype about GSP kicking his a$$ but still, I think the guy is losing fans. His most recent move hurts all of MMA in my eyes. The guy is going to be sporting clothing branded with GunsAmerica.com all over. Just the type of sponsor we need. I wonder if he has room on his shirt for the Spanish Bull Fighting and South American Cock Fighting federations.

STRIKEFORCE DEBUT ON NBC - SATURDAY 2AM

Idiots like Bill O'reilly have heard about this and are trying to get attention by bashing the show. He says things like "opponents try to GAOUGE each other" are you f'n kidding me? THE 10 MOST DESPICABLE PEOPLE IN MMA

CagePotato has a great list with the best of the worst. Of course, my list would have Dana White holding down all 10 spots. I agree with the list except for #1. I actually didnt know Rico was that bad but still. Overall, I think Dana White takes the cake. Mike Kyle is also a big jerk. He actually ended some guys career with illegal blow.

APRIL 11 - YAMMA PIT FIGHTING

Had a good time watching this event with my pops. I actually liked the new cage setup they used. Their cage was circular with a "ramp" like edge that kept the fighters away from the walls.

I always wonder with the big names that are floating around post PrideFC why these shows can't seem to find one of these guys. A quick example would be Allister Overeem. The tournament setup was cool to watch again but I wouldn't want to see it too often. As well, it was cool to see Pat Smith fight again (he was in the first UFC) but Butterbean? Really? Was it a surprise that once he hit the ground it was over?

For an MMA fan, the show was ok. I guess it holds me over from one major event to another. I just hope that the NBC and CBS shows do better for folks.

MANY NEW REALITY SHOWS COMING TO MMA

Not sure how to take this one. The sport overall needs to continue to show the skills and talent required from its athletes. Reality shows are there to make money and give the average joe what he wants, violence and sex. I think too many MMA reality shows will add a trash factor to the sport. At the same time, The Ultimate Fighter is responsible for most new fans to MMA. The new shows are "The Iron Ring", "Settle Your Grudge", and "T.O.P Army Fighter". CRAZY K.O. ON ULTIMATE FIGHTER EPISODE 2

You need to watch this episode to get a good feel for the fight. Dan Simmler got KO'd so bad he didn't even know he was in a fight, in a cage or anything. I've heard a lot of people talking about this knock out and I'm just glad the dude isn't really hurt. The news media is just waiting for someone to get hurt on a big show like TUF.

One of my fav fighters. This guy holds nothing back and watching him fight is always fun. He's fought a lot of big names from Pride but just can't seem to make it all the way. ROY JONES JR. BASHING DANA WHITE

I'm trying really hard not to jump in on the bashing. I'll just say this, Roy Jones Jr. (known for being cocky) along with Anderson Silva are both coming out looking like class acts. The comments they have for each other really show they are true Champs in their sports. Will Silva likely lose a "boxing" match? Yes. Will that hurt his career? NO! This is a boxing match so Roy has all the pressure. Jones wouldn't stand a chance in MMA anyway. More here and lots here

NEW TYPE OF CAGE FOR YAMMA EVENT

This might be good. I mean, who said that the current cage setup was the best place for MMA to take place? I personally like the PrideFC ring better but likely because I like PrideFC better as an organization. Check out the vid below on Yamma Pit Fighting and their new cage setup.

SAM VASQUEZ - FIRST MMA RELATED DEATH

This is very sad to here. The guy was 35, married with kids as well. I've had many arguments with people about the danger of boxing vs. MMA Even though boxing has many more fatal injuries, people still seem to think that MMA is much more dangerous. Think of it this way, a boxing match can have up to 600 punches thrown with the majority being aimed at your head. You can get KO'd two times and continue fighting in the same fight. In most MMA events, 1 KO = end of fight. As well, fights can end without a single punch thrown via submission. More on Sam's death here and here. RIP dude.

ALEX EMELINENKO (FEDOR'S BROTHER) BASHES UFC

It looks like Alex is ready and willing to fight for the UFC but they simply will not sign him. He doesn't have the best jaw in town but he's definitely had his share of spectacular wins. I've been a big fan of both brothers and would love to see them fight in the UFC. More on Alex's thoughts here

Well, we know damn well how Fox news works. How the F$## can you call this "bare knuckle" fighting? They didn't even give the other side a chance! JOE ROGAN NOT COMING TO CANADA FOR UFC83

I'm not sure how to take this one. None of the MMA sites / blogs are really saying anything negative or positive about this, but simply reporting on it. I've given it some thought and at first I was like, well, he is a comedian and has other gigs along with the show Fear Factor. Afterwards I thought, he was only known as the "Fear Factor Dude" for a long time until he started doing the UFC shows, and at first, everyone hated his commentary/voice. Now, I still think most people know him from Fear Factor but many more know his name because of the UFC. Here is what pisses me off: The guy for whatever reason, even if valid, is not going to be at the UFC that not only broke ticket sale records, but sold out in record time and is the first one for Canada. So what do I have to say? Here is one blog that salutes you with a great big ol F$#@ You from Canada...EH!

Btw, we've had our own fight announcer for along time and he would do a good job replacing you! Have a look...

DAN SEVERN - NEEDS TO BE RECOGNIZED

If you've been an MMA fan for a long time then you know who Dan Severn is and likely remember how tough the dude is. Well, this guy definitely deserves credit because he's still going! I was lucky enough to see him at a local MMA event on an indian reserve close to Hamilton Ontario. Hey may not be fighting big names but he's still going. Check out this article here and pay the guy some respect. He's one of the elders.

RECENT RANDY COTOUR INTERVIEW

Randy is interviewed by Sherdog.com in this video and talks about the UFC along with other subjects. I think he needs to do something soon before it's too late. I'm starting to get the feeling that he's almost looking to bank on a fight with Fedor so that he can retire nicely? Not sure though, and I'm still a fan.

LIDDELL NOT HAPPY WITH KIMBO

Ok, so the "ICE MAN" thinks that Kimbo is over rated and too popular for being new to the sport. Chuck thinks that anyone can go around and beat people up to posted on the net to get famous etc. I think this is BS and Chuck is just angry/jealous that this dude is so popular in the sport already. BRAZILLIAN JUI-JITSU DEMONSTRATION

I've always advised new fans to MMA to ensure they read up on their BJJ if they really want to enjoy watching the sport from a different level. If you don't know anything about Jui-Jitsu than you're only watching half of the fight. I'll be putting on an instructional videos of a move every week so that you can start having even more fun watching MMA.

He's never been the same since getting in a car accident years ago. He's been gone for two years and his record isn't that good but he's always fun to watch. I think everyone is waiting for the original explosive Kevin to come back.

UFC FIGHT NIGHT RESULTS / ULTIMATE FIGHTER 7 RECAP

I caught up on some of the fights via Youtube and was impressed with the show. A few surprising but impressive Ko's were included. There was also some controversy around how much time fighters should be given to recover "seeming" like they've been KO'd. In my opinion, both fights (Karo and Houston) were called correctly by the refs. You got KTFO'd dudes....deal with it. I also had a chance to watch some of the Ultimate Fighter 7 and it was a good start. Nothing like a bunch of fights to get the show started. I still think they should have made bigger changes to the show. Ah well, I'm ready for another season :)

This is some bad news but it looks like these guys might be shutting down. I was actually a big fan of Bodog. I loved the outdoors events they had. Overall it was a pretty cool event to watch not to mention the exotic bodog girls. I'm sad to see them on their last leg.

I guess I'll just wait for him to grapple Couture. Then again, is he scared to jump into MMA? We already know he's a good greco-wrestler

ELITEXC STRIKEFORCE - SALARIES BREAK DOWN SIMILAR TO UFC BUT..

I don't think Frank and Kung would have been paid this much in the UFC. I wonder why fighters are still getting paid under $10k for fighting in such major events. I hope they start making some extra money for their skills.
